Background and interests
I studied Computer Science and Mathematics / Statistics at Swarthmore College in PA, USA. After graduating in 2009, I joined the core-relevance division of Bing at Microsoft, where I still work. I love the fact that Microsoft has a generous ($12K/year) matching-contributions program for any US 501(c)(3) public charity that I choose.
I donate a good amount of my income to Vegan Outreach, in part to help factory-farmed animals in the short run but more importantly, to spread concern for animal welfare among the general population. The ultimate goal is to increase the probability that future human civilization will give equal moral weight to animal suffering, including wild-animal suffering, which preponderates over human-caused animal suffering by orders of magnitude.
I’m interested in whether insects can suffer, and I hope to encourage research on and wider use of more humane insecticides in agriculture. Controlled atmosphere killing of poultry and humane slaughter of fish are other areas I find compelling.
