Piers Le Marchant - How to Raise Hundreds of Millions of Pounds for Charity
General Counsel Europe at Nomura (the biggest investment bank in Japan) and previously European Legal Director of Lehman Brothers, Piers conceived and founded The Balance Foundation (now the Big Society Bank) a scheme redirecting unclaimed assets from investment banks to charity, through which he has raised well in excess of £100 million to date. He is the Founder and Trustee of multiple other trusts, including the Gilbert & George Centre (set up with the artists Gilbert and George) and the Nomura Charitable Trust, which currently gives away $1 million each year. His other projects include Learn to Earn (formerly Businesswise) which is a national programme teaching bright school dropouts how to set up and run their own businesses, and an exciting new project with Allia to develop the social investment bond market.
