Why read this guide?

You have 80,000 working hours in your life. If used well, you can use this time to greatly improve the lives of hundreds of people.

Who are we?

We started 80,000 Hours because we weren’t sure what to do with our own careers, and no-one could answer our questions. Since then we’ve been on a mission to create the world’s best advice on how to choose a career with social impact.

What’s this based on?

We’ve coached over 200 people, written over 300 articles, and worked with academics at Oxford, to figure out how to have the greatest social impact through your career. The answers aren’t what you’d first think – you don’t have to work at a charity and we won’t tell you to follow your passion.

Who is this for?

Ultimately, we want to advise everyone in the world on how to have a big social impact in their career. Right now, we’re focusing on giving advice for talented and ambitious graduates in their twenties.

How come this is all free?

We’re a nonprofit funded by individual donors, who give to us so that we can help people like you have a greater impact. We don’t accept any money from corporations or advertisers.
