Resources you can engage with before applying to advising
What makes it more likely that you'll be a fit for advising? We're most helpful for people who:
- Take an analytical approach to social impact and career choice.
- Aim to use their career to do the most good, and are serious about promoting welfare over the long term.
- Are open to considering the possibility of rapid AI progress in the near future and its consequences.
- Hope to work on one of our pressing problems, especially mitigating risks from AI.
It also helps to think deeply about how you can help solve these problems! To help with that thinking, we strongly recommend engaging with some of the resources below. We find that we're much more likely to accept advising applications from, and give helpful advice to, people who do.
Below is a private scratchpad for the resources — you can write down what you make of them, and your notes are saved on your device so you can come back to them later.
